Vegan News Daily announced that it has donated 19% of proceeds from its recent online cooking series “Meals & Mocktails in May” to support two important food banks with COVID-19 relief efforts–Community Solidarity in Long Island, NY and Center of Help in Annapolis, MD.
As Caileigh Feldman, Marketing and Content Manager at Vegan News Daily explains, “Now, more than ever, we need to bring increased awareness to the foods that we are eating and how those choices impact our bodies, the animals around us and our environment. Equally important to our mission at Vegan News Daily, is giving back. Through our series, we were able to raise $1,000 to support two wonderful organizations to help put plant-based food on the table for those in need.”
Feldman, who is also a raw vegan chef, yoga instructor and wellness coach, co-hosted the May series with another top vegan cook, her mother, Elspeth. The “senior” Feldman, well known as The Speedy Vegan, is a recognized vegan advocate and author who effortlessly demonstrated beginner and advanced vegan cooking techniques.
The first group that Vegan News Daily supported with a donation is Community Solidarity–America’s largest vegetarian hunger relief organization, based in Long Island. The group rescues tens of thousands of pounds of healthy plant-based groceries and meals–that would otherwise go to waste–and provides them to people in need. Community Solidarity is working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic serving thousands of vulnerable individuals at the organization’s food distributor locations.
Jon Stepanian, President and CEO of Community Solidarity, expressed his thanks for the contribution and said: “Your support has allowed our program to expand the amount of people we can help. Over the past 10 weeks, we’ve went from helping 5,700 families each week, to over 10,000 families each week. We couldn’t have met that need without caring donors like the Vegan News Daily community.”
Vegan News Daily also donated to Center of Help–a nonprofit that has been serving the low-income Latino population in Annapolis, MD since 1999. The Center provides food, meals, educational programs to assist the Hispanic/Latino community and other immigrants to assimilate into American culture, language and customs. The donations will go towards purchasing fresh produce for families in need. Commented Kirsten D. Clark, Executive Director: “On behalf of the Center of Help, we would like to thank you for your generous donation of $500.00 towards produce for our COVID-19 Relief efforts. Thanks to donors like you, we were able to feed a total of 228 immigrant families in the Annapolis area this past weekend.”
Concluded Feldman, “It is an honor to give back to those in need and support organizations that are aligned with our mission to empower families to improve their health and wellness with plant-based foods. This is all possible because of our Dinner Club members and we are so thankful.”
